We needed a photo as a central campaign image for Bottleneck Drive - Summerland’s wine route. It was still early in the season and the weather wasn't cooperating to shoot something new so we ended up borrowing a background from another image we did a couple years ago. Sometimes where there is no choice… you have to fake it.
The value of storyboarding
Storyboard Productions is the video production side of Unlimited Vision. Our storyboards help determine whether ideas are feasible - this is a technique borrowed from the film industry, an industry which can’t afford costly mistakes by not having a clear understanding of what the outcome should look like.
We use storyboarding for both video and stills shoots where necessary. Sketches can be simple or super detailed right down to what the background or wardrobe should look like. It’s largely dependent on the project and budget. Clients like storyboards as it helps them visualize the outcome as well.
This project was for the Vanilla Pod Restaurant at Poplar Grove Winery, in Penticton, BC. The result ended up being used for a poster to advertise the wedding side of the restaurant and winery business.
Can't take it with you? Fake it.

We photographed some stunning landscapes in Italy in October 2019 but didn’t have all of the above product with us. I had shot this grouping in Summerland originally so when back home merged the two photos and voila… photographed in Italy – sort of.
This style of imagery can be effective when creating a mixture of lifestyle photos, model shots, studio shots, and photoshopped shots to work in line with particular budgets.
